CLIL IN PRIMARY : SCAFFOLDING LANGUAGE AND LEARNING

INTRODUCCIÓN

 The implementation of bilingual programmes in Cantabria is nowadays an objective fact which involves a whole range of teachers and students in our schools. We do believe it is highly recommendable to organize training activities which provide teachers with a deep theoretical ground to base their daily work on together with a good amount of practical resources to improve their CLIL proposals.

OBJETIVOS

 

The aim of the three day workshop is to provide participants with:
• an overview of CLIL approaches, concepts and terminology.
• an opportunity to improve knowledge and skills in CLIL methodology through hands-on tasks and guided reflection.
• a forum for collaborative discussion with colleagues and on-going professional development.

CONTENIDOS

 

DAY 1
1. Introductions.
2. Introduction to CLIL: our experience, ideas and opinions about it.
3. Practical example of CLIL: Take part as pupils. Analyze as teachers.
4. Language and learning: analyzing demands and scaffolding support.
DAY 2
1. CLIL: The state of the art.
2. Using sequences from different subject content (Maths, Science, Art etc.) to highlight:
- CALP / BICS
- Developing cognitive processes
- The importance of talk for learning

DAY 3
1. Language and learning demands and support in published materials.
2. Short participant task: CLIL an activity showing language demands and support.
3. Rounding up. Looking forward.

METODOLOGÍA

 The course will attempt to survey most of the important issues surrounding CLIL. The many reasons and methods for implementing CLIL will be discussed, as well as their implications on practical examples. Examples of existing good practice will be shown.

PONENTE

 

DIANA LINDSAY is a teacher, teacher trainer and materials writer based in the Basque Country. She has also lived and worked in Africa, the U.K., Italy, China and Qatar. In the Basque Country, she has worked in teacher education and project design with the British Council, the Basque Government, the University of the Basque Country and the Federation of Ikastolas (Basque-medium schools).
She has co-authored teaching materials and training courses for CLIL in Primary and Secondary education.
Current interests include English-medium subject instruction from Primary to Higher Education, and professional standards for teachers.

 Profesorado de Educación Primaria que esté prestando servicios en centros docentes sostenidos con fondos públicos de la Comunidad Autónoma de Cantabria en el curso 2013-2014.

CRITERIOS DE SELECCIÓN

 

• Profesorado de Disciplinas No Lingüísticas de Educación Primaria que imparta docencia en un centro que cuente con un Programa de Educación Bilingüe de inglés en el presente curso 2013 / 2014.
• Profesorado especialista de inglés de Primaria que imparta docencia en un centro que cuente con un Programa de Educación Bilingüe en el presente curso 2013-2014.
• Resto del profesorado de Educación Primaria.
