INTRODUCCIÓN

The European Profiling Grid can be seen as a framework for existing and potential European Frameworks for language teachers.  The first competency within the Grid is language ability, clearly defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for languages.  We will look at, self assess, and give feedback on the rest of the competencies and how they affect the expectations for language teachers and academic management.

OBJETIVOS

Our objective is explore the EPG piece by piece and reflect on how it relates to our individual needs regarding our profession development. The aim of the European Profiling Grid (EPG) project was to help improve the quality and effectiveness of language training through the use of an innovative instrument: the European Profiling Grid.
Designed for teachers working in Europe in language centres and schools in Europe, this tool can be used to:
◦ help better identify training and professional development needs;
◦ provide a reliable aid to the self-assessment and assessment of professional skills;
◦ support the recruitment of language teachers and the management of their performance;
◦ foster mobility by describing the professional skills and qualifications of language teachers from whichever country.
Thus, the EPG is not just a tool developed for the use of the language teachers but also for their trainers and employers.

CONTENIDOS

The content of the EPG is clearly defined.  We will be taking the actual grid and examining it step by step: Presenting each competency, requesting self-evaluation, posing questions, sharing feedback and discussing how this will affect our individual futures as language teachers as well as language teaching in general in the European Community.
